How to prevent your dog from getting Lost

  • Be sure your yard is securely fenced.
  • Always keep your dog with a collar and tags.
  • Use a “Sharpie” (permanent marker) and write your phone number on the collar in case the tag falls off.
  • Microchip your dog. It’s not very expensive at all and it doesn’t hurt the dog. It takes about 5 minutes.
  • If your utility meters are inside the dogs area, post a sign warning the meter readers, or better yet, if possible, put up a partial gate behind the meter to keep your pets from accessing that part of the yard.
  • Take your dog for walks around your neighborhood often, that can help him get familiar with his surroundings and if lost, find his way home, and if your neighbors know your dog, they might bring him or her home.
